Postdoctoral Researcher

Description

Join our team to study dynamic treatment strategies for patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome using ICU data! We’re conducting emulated target trials of strategies for initiating and stopping steroids and neuromuscular blockade and for managing ventilator settings. We’ll use g-methods for confounding adjustment. We are also exploring estimation of low dimensional and interpretable phenotypes that are useful for decision making. There are 3 co-PIs on the project–Zach Shahn (with expertise in causal inference and statistics), Elias Kassis (an ICU physician and researcher at BIDMC), and Li-wei Lehman (a machine learning researcher at MIT and Physionet, which houses and maintains the MIMIC data base). We have an R01 grant (funding through September 2027 in hand, possibility for two year renewal). While the grant is largely applied, we are also happy to support even loosely related methodological work. The position would pay $75K per year. Remote is fine, but if located in NYC we can have regular in person meetings.

The ideal applicant should have a phd in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field and experience with healthcare data, target trial emulation, and g-methods.

Please email Zachary.Shahn@sph.cuny.edu if interested.
